The Distinguished Service Award from the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce is among the region’s oldest and most-prestigious civic honors, and nominations are being accepted for the 2018 award.
The Chamber has presented the Distinguished Service Award annually since 1929 to individuals whose extraordinary commitment to the Grand Traverse area has improved the lives of the people who live here. The list of past DSA recipients includes individuals who’ve left a permanent, positive impact on our community – some of the most-recognized and respected names in local history.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes business leaders, public servants, patrons of area arts, and those from a host of other backgrounds who’ve committed their time and effort to better the Grand Traverse area. Almost a thousand people gather at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration to celebrate the DSA recipient.
Persons nominated must be residents of the Chamber’s five-county service area. Nominees are not required to be Chamber members, and anyone is welcome to submit a nomination. Major considerations for the DSA are contributions (beyond purely monetary donations) to the cultural, economic and social betterment of our region, along with character and ethics.
Nominations will be accepted through October 31 through an online form. Each nomination requires three letters of support. The 2018 Distinguished Service Award will be presented at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration coming up Jan. 23, 2019 at NMC’s Hagerty Center.
