J.S. Capitol Group continues to work with City and County officials to clean the Brownfield Site and future home of Hotel Indigo.
The original design of the hotel submitted to the EPA took into account polluted soil and also groundwater flowing through the site from another area. With the assistance of borrowed funds through the Grand Traverse County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, a tremendous amount of cleanup has taken place. This has improved/lessened the amount of pollution within the soil substantially.
During the extensive soil cleanup, the groundwater flowing through the property was found to be more contaminated than originally determined and included some levels of cyanide. With this determination, measures ensued and water cleanup progressed with success in achieving none-detect levels for cyanide.
“We are very pleased with the site cleanup,” said Jeff Schmitz, J.S. Capitol President, “and looking forward to the completion of Hotel Indigo.”
