TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Effective September 1, BATA is introducing a new route system for the Suttons Bay Area, providing improved service to Leelanau County.
In August, BATA will host a community meeting to educate the public on the new system. All those who regularly use Suttons Bay BATA services are encouraged to attend:
DATE: Tuesday, August 13
TIME: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Leelanau County Government Building, Lower Level Community Room
ADDRESS: 8527 East Government Center Drive in Suttons Bay
Carrie Thompson, BATA Director of Business Development, and Kelly Yaroch, BATA Human Resources and Operations Director, will present the system overview and answer attendee questions.
“Our goal for the meeting is to provide all the information the public will need,” says Thompson. “We want to show them how to use public transportation effectively.”
The new route system allows for a number of benefits to the BATA ridership:
• Routes allow for integration with the rest of the BATA transit system via the Suttons Bay Village Loop
• Flag-down stops are permitted along all Village/Suttons Bay Area Loop flex routes
• Flex route deviation of up to three-quarters of a mile per leg
• Each stop is conveniently located
• All stops are clearly marked with updated signage
“With these new routes, our goal is to provide markedly improved service to greater Leelanau County residents and area commuters,” says Yaroch.

With over 120 employees, BATA provides more than a half million rides annually to residents and visitors in Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties. After an exhaustive study, the organization launched major service and route improvements in May 2013. These enhancements, including “Loop” (fixed routes) and “Link” (zone) services, were designed to better meet residents’ daily transportation needs.
