November 25, 2013 (Traverse City, Mich;) The Traverse Area District Library (TADL) is excited and pleased to announce Catherine Lancaster as the organization’s new Coordinator of Youth Services.
Lancaster, who previously served as children’s librarian at Flint Public Library, brings a full range of professional and leadership experience to TADL said Library Director, Metta T.Lansdale.
“Cathy comes to us with an impressive understanding of Youth Services librarianship,” Lansdale said. “We are fortunate to have her join our library team and our community.”
A graduate of Kalamazoo College, Lancaster also holds a Masters Degree in Library and Informational Sciences from Wayne State University. Specializing in collection development and reference, outreach and programming, and grant writing for children’s services, she is also a strong advocate for the Public Library Association (PLA) ‘Every Child Ready to Read’ effort, which she had incorporated into her collection and program development.
Lancaster has been involved in community and collaborative programs with, among others, the Flint Cultural Center, Michigan Storytelling Festival and the Flint River Trail. In addition, she served on the ILS replacement steering committee as well as its implementation team for the Flint Public Library.
In her new role, Cathy will manage youth services operations for the Traverse Area District Library. She will oversee staff, programming, collection development and community outreach and collaboration for youth services at the Woodmere (Main) library and branch locations.
Lancaster will started her new position with TADL on Monday, November 18.
“I encourage the public and our regular patrons to stop in to Woodmere to meet Cathy and say hi,” said Lansdale.
Lancaster replaces Bernadette Groppuso who retired in October after more than 15 years of dedicated service to TADL.
