Alfred E. Pilong, Jr. has served as president of Munson Medical Center, a 391-bed regional referral hospital and Level II Trauma Center in Traverse City, Mich., since April 2013. Mr. Pilong has a dual leadership role, also serving as chief operating officer for Munson Healthcare. In this role he provides operational oversight and works with the leaders of Cadillac Hospital, Charlevoix Hospital, Grayling Hospital, Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital, Munson Home Health, Northern Michigan Supply Alliance and the Munson Physician Network, specifically ensuring high quality continuity of care and a strong culture of safety.
Prior to joining Munson Medical Center, Mr. Pilong served as president of the 445-bed Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va., where he also was senior vice president
of the multi-hospital Valley Health System.
Mr. Pilong received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., and worked as a pharmacist and later a professor of pharmacy before moving into hospital administration. He has a master’s degree in divinity from Alliance Theological Seminary in Nyack, N.Y., and a master’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pa.
As a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Mr. Pilong is board certified in Healthcare Management.
