Bellaire, MI – Shanty Creek Resorts (SCR), one of northern Michigan’s premier golf destinations, continues its Golf 2.0 initiative by launching a new SCR Junior Golf Program.
In an effort to make the game fun and attract more kids to the sport, the resort has developed a unique five-week program for juniors to learn and play the game in a fun and non-intimidating atmosphere.
“We are very excited about launching this new junior program and doing our part to grow the game through Golf 2.0,” said Brian Kautz, director of golf and PGA Professional for SCR. “We look forward to introducing the game of golf to juniors of all ages and enriching their lives by teaching them a sport they can play the rest of their lives.”
The program will kick off on Thursday June 27 at 5:30 p.m. with a FREE Junior Learn to Golf Clinic. The weekly program will then run July 11 – August 8, and is open to both resort guests and non-resort guests. The cost to participate is $99 for the five-week session, or just $25 for each session.
Each week Shanty Creek Resorts PGA Professionals will direct the program and provide two-hours of instruction, which includes one hour of on-course experience. The program will incorporate learning the game with rules, etiquette, and history of the game. The last session on August 8 will be a tournament event with prizes and awards for the kids.
The program will also incorporate SCR’s Golf 2.0 initiative by utilizing forward tees and the popular 8” cups on the Summit golf course. The 8” cups and the new set of forward tees developed at the Summit course were implemented earlier this year to make the game easier. The forward tees range from 95 yards to 125 yards, and is attracting more youngsters and beginners to play golf.
New Junior Golf Camp allows kids to expand on what they have learned from the weekly program
Complimenting the new junior program is SCR’s new Junior Golf Camp, which takes place August 5-7. Junior golfers can add this program and take their game to the next level following the weekly lessons.
The cost of the camp is $195, and includes four-hours of instruction and on-course experience each day. Children will learn all aspects of the game including full-swing, short game, as well as incorporating rules, etiquette, and history of the sport. The final day of the camp will include a 9-hole event with prizes and lunch.
Juniors who participate in the weekly programs or the camp program will have unlimited access and use of the driving ranges at both Summit and Schuss.
In addition, all campers and children under 17 will be able to golf for FREE on the Summit and Schuss Mountain courses with a paying adult seven days a week. Children will also be able to play FREE on The Legend and Cedar River golf courses on Sundays after 2 p.m.
