The Distinguished Service Award from the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce is among the region’s oldest and most-prestigious civic honors, and nominations are being accepted for the 2016 award.
The Chamber has presented the Distinguished Service Award annually since 1929 to individuals whose extraordinary commitment to the Grand Traverse area has improved the lives of the people who live here. The list of past DSA recipients includes individuals who’ve left a permanent, positive impact on our community – some of the most-recognized and respected names in local history.
The Distinguished Service Award recognizes business leaders, public servants, patrons of area arts, and those from a host of other backgrounds who’ve committed their time and effort to better the Grand Traverse area. Almost a thousand people gather at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration to celebrate the DSA recipient, including 2015 honoree Charles Judson of Traverse City.
Persons nominated must be residents of the Chamber’s 5-county service area. They are not required to be Chamber members, and non-Chamber members are invited to submit nominations. Contributions other than purely monetary donations to the cultural, economic and social betterment of the area are major considerations for the award, along with character and ethics.
Nominations will be accepted through October 14. Nomination forms are available on the Chamber’s website at www.tcchamber.org The 2016 Distinguished Service Award will be presented at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration coming up Jan. 20, 2017 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa.
