2016 SBC Application

Benefits of applying for the 2016 Chamber’s  Small Business of the Year:

  • Learn more about your company – Through the application process you will learn more about your company by digging deeper into every aspect of your business.  You will not only look at the financials, but your employee satisfaction and community involvement.
  • Company pride – by involving your staff, they will also learn about, get a deeper appreciation and love for their company.
  • Hagerty Gift – Hagerty will match up to $5,000 donation to a charity of the winner’s choosing AND offers up to 40 hours of business counseling from members of it’s executive team.

What is my commitment?

  • Time
    • The application will take a few hours or up to several weeks, that depends on the amount of effort you are willing to put into completing the application.  Be very thoughtful about your answers and really think about what makes your company unique.
    • The Candidates Showcase is an event you will need to prepare for after the application is complete.  This event is required for all applicants to attend.  This is where you can shine by showing the judges, and the community your creativeness and what makes your company great.
    • There are several events you will need to plan on attending if you are selected as one of the Top 10 Candidates.  You will need to set aside time for our video production company to come out and capture a video and an hour for our judges to do a site visit.  There will also be the Meet the Top 10 Breakfast and Awards Ceremony (see the timeline) which you will need to attend.
    • If you are selected as the Chamber’s Small Business of the Year – we will need you to meet with some of the Chamber staff to go over all your benefits and help you leverage this award.  As the winner you will be asked to sit on the judges panel for next year’s Small Business Celebration.
  • Money
    • There is no cost to apply, but you need to be a member of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.  You will be asked to submit a creative piece.  It can be a video, slide show or a portfolio as part of the application process. These options may create additional investment.
    • Candidates Showcase – you may incur some cost with creating your display for the Candidates Showcase. This event will allow you to create a display (keeping within a 2 1/2′ footprint).  It doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate, just creative and show who and what your company is all about.
    • Meet the Top 10 Breakfast and Awards Ceremony – you will receive two tickets to each of these events.  You will have the opportunity to invite your staff, colleagues, vendors, etc. at an additional cost of $15 per ticket.
