An online candidate forum featuring candidates in the race for mayor and city commission in Traverse City is available through the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber today launched its latest version of its Virtual Candidate Forum in advance of the upcoming elections in Traverse City on November 3, where city voters will fill a 2-year mayoral term and three 4-year seats on the City Commission. The Virtual Candidate Forum is available on the Chamber’s website at www.tcchamber.org
The digital format includes brief video statements from the candidates and their written responses to a series of questions on local issues. They include mayoral candidates Jim Carruthers and Jeanine Easterday, and commission candidates Brian Haas, Richard Lewis, Tom Mair and Amy Shamroe. Mayoral candidate Ian Winkelmann and commission candidate Brandy Courtade did not participate.
The Chamber debuted its Virtual Candidate Forum prior to the 2014 August primary election because of the large number of candidates in some of the area’s primary races. Because of the positive response from Chamber members and the public, the Chamber expanded the digital format last November to include local races, and is continuing the service for this year’s city elections.
“We continue to receive positive feedback from our members, along with the candidates and others, about the Virtual Candidate Forum.” said Kent Wood, the Chamber’s director of government relations. “It’s an opportunity for people to hear directly from the candidates about who they are and where they stand on city issues, and be able to do so from home, work, or wherever and whenever it’s convenient for them.”
The candidate videos and questionnaires can be found on the home page or by clicking on the Legislative Advocacy Tab at www.tcchamber.org
