A new way to pay for bus rides
TRAVERSE CITY, MI – On August 26, all BATA Loop and Link buses will be equipped with electronic fare boxes. The new boxes will accept three methods of payment — the new Zip Tickets and Zoom Cards, and cash. Both Loop and Link buses will issue transfer passes and change cards for cash overpayment.
Zip Tickets are temporary paper tickets available in one-day and three-day versions or with stored value. Zoom Cards are plastic, rechargeable, stored-value cards and are also available as “Annual Student Pass” cards.
Tickets and cards will be available for purchase at the Hall Street and Cass Road Transfer Stations, where cash, check, Visa® and MasterCard® are accepted. Riders can also purchase Daily Zip Tickets on board all BATA buses (cash only).
“We’re really excited about our latest innovation. We’ve made paying your bus fare faster and easier than ever, which means a streamlined boarding process for everyone. We’re always trying to make our services more convenient,” says Carrie Thompson, BATA Director of Business Development. “FlashFare is a major step forward.”
Beginning on August 14, BATA will have demonstration fare boxes available at both the Hall Street and Cass Road Transfer Stations. There will also be a video featuring step-by-step instructions for using the system at both stations. In addition, you can visit the Hall Street Transfer Station (115 Hall St. in Traverse City) on August 21, 2013 from 7:00-7:30am, 9:30-10:30am, and 3:30-5:00pm for live demonstrations with an instructor. Demonstrations will also be held on August 22 from 7:00am-12pm, and 3:00-5:00pm.
Beginning August 26, riders can redeem the remaining value of any valid pass for a new Zip Ticket. You can still use the old passes on the bus until October 31, after which passes will be redeemable at the Cass Road and Hall Street Transfer Stations only, until September 30, 2014.
