Bellaire, MI – This coming October 2013, all golf courses in Antrim County have pledged to come together to raise awareness and funds for High Tea (ACHT), Antrim County’s non-profit organization that provides breast cancer education and patient services for women and men residents in need.
“A Round of Prevention” will seek to raise funds and awareness whereby each participating golf course will solicit an extra dollar or two from every golfer playing their courses during October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month). All ten of Antrim’s courses are participating including the four courses of Shanty Creek Resorts (Cedar River GC, The Legend, Schuss Mtn GC, Summit GC), the three courses of A-Ga-Ming (Sundance GC, Torch GC, Antrim Dells) plus The Chief, Hawk’s Eye, and Centennial Farm.
“When the idea was brought to us, we were thrilled,” said Jane Van Etten, co-founder and president of ACHT. “Back when we first envisioned High Tea, Antrim County had the highest incident of breast cancer per capita among all of Michigan. Since starting in 2004, and due in part to our efforts to educate and early detection patient services, Antrim County now ranks in the middle and is getting lower each year.
“We’re very appreciative that the area golf courses are lending their efforts to our cause. We know that breast cancer doesn’t just affect women; it affects households and families. [Male] Golfers who donate this October will know they may be protecting their own wife, daughter or mother. Maybe even themselves.”
