A Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance meeting in Marquette this week coincided with a visit from Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, who visited the Upper Peninsula to drum up support for federal Medicaid expansion in Michigan.
The Alliance supports Medicaid expansion to help Michigan improve the health of its residents and reduce the cost of providing care. Medicaid expansion through the federal government will extend health care coverage to an estimated 470,000 Michigan residents, including many working families in northern Michigan. It will reduce costs to healthcare providers for uncompensated care, and lead to more preventive care options for Michigan residents.
The Traverse City Area Chamber and its partners at the Alliance endorse Medicaid expansion, and urge members to contact their state senators on this important issue. The state Senate is scheduled to reconvene July 17, when it may take up the expansion which has been supported by the state House and is backed by Gov. Snyder.
