The country is fortunate to have men and women who step up to serve as reservists for theArmed Forces. Equally important are the employers of those reservists who allow them the opportunity to serve their country.
One of those employers is the Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center in Traverse City. Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center was recently recognized by the U.S. Department of Defense with its Employer Support Freedom Award as a runner-up. It’s the highest recognition from the U.S. Government to employers for outstanding support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve, and one of only a handful of such awards presented around the U.S. each year.
GLOC was nominated by one of its physician assistants, Capt. Ralph Geraci who serves in the U.S. Army Reserve where he also works as a PA. The award was presented by Peter Pallas, Ombudsman Director in Michigan for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) organization. It was presented to Capt. Geraci and members of the GLOC staff at a ceremony last week, where guests include Capt. Geraci’s family and several Traverse City Area Chamber Ambassadors.
“Captain Geraci nominated the Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center for this award to show the nation the profound example that GLOC demonstrates in support of projecting our country’s military and political influence around the world,” said Sarah Elliott of GLOC’s Human Resources department. “While performing Capt. Geraci’s Reserive duties, his fellow physician assistants stepped in to provide exemplary care in the face of increased challenges.”
Capt. Geraci, an 8-year veteran of the Army Reserve, was also quick to credit both the GLOC physicians and his fellow physician assistants for earning the prestigious honor.
“This (award) is really all about them,” Capt. Geraci said.
Great Lakes Orthopaedic Center has been a member of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce since 2006. Located at 4045 West Royal Drive in Traverse City, the office is staffed by more than a dozen orthopaedic physicians, along with a team of physician assistants and physical therapists providing a wide range of medical care and treatment. Its specialty care includes arthroscopy, foot and ankle care, hip and knee treatment, sports medicine, trauma and other areas. More information is available at http://gogloc.com/
As part of last week’s presentation, Great Lakes Orthopaedic also received a tribute from the State of Michigan signed by Gov. Rick Snyder, state Sen. Wayne Schmidt and Rep. Larry Inman in recognition of the federal honor. Congratulations to everyone at GLOC – and thanks for inviting the Chamber to be part of the celebration.
