Growing Business. Building Community.

Jill May Joins Venture North Staff

Jill brought to Venture North an impressive background both in the economic development and non-profit sector in southwest Michigan. She worked as a program officer for the Frey Foundation where she reviewed and evaluated grant proposals and then monitored their administration and impact. She also served as an adjunct professor in grant writing at Grand Valley State University, and before that worked as the Director of Fund Development at The Right Place Inc. in Grand Rapids, which is among Michigan’s most-impactful economic development organizations.

Jill also worked in the non-profit field as a Community Development Director for the American Cancer Society and an Events Manager for Catholic Charities of West Michigan. She’s done extensive community volunteer and advocacy work, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Olivet College and a Master’s Degree in Public and Nonprofit Administration from Grand Valley. She’s married to Jen DeHaan, the deputy county administrator for Grand Traverse County.

“I’m honored to be working with Venture North to support the region’s economic growth,” she said. “With more than 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, my primary responsibilities at Venture North include identifying new sources of capital to build organizational capacity and grow the loan fund, and provide marketing and outreach strategy.”
