Growing Business. Building Community.

It’s Time to Celebrate Small Business

It’s time again to shine a spotlight on Northwest Michigan’s amazing small business community as nominations are open for the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Small Business Celebration.

The Small Business Celebration, which culminates on May 31 with presentation of the Chamber’s 2017 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award, is open to for-profit companies in the Chamber’s 5-county service area with up to 150 employees that have been in business for at least three years. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, February 24.

Nomination forms are available through the Chamber’s website at www.tcchamber.org.

“We’re excited for this year’s Small Business Celebration,” Chamber Executive Director Max Anderson said. “It’s a privilege to recognize and highlight our region’s dynamic and impactful small business sector, which represents a large majority of our Chamber membership. We’re grateful for the growing sponsorship support of the Small Business Celebration and look forward to sharing the amazing stories of the small business owners and employees who will take part.”

The Chamber’s Small Business Celebration was launched in 2005 to underscore the critical role that small business plays in Northern Michigan’s economy. Since its inception, hundreds of local businesses have gone through the nominating process. This year’s Small Business Celebration is sponsored by Priority Health, Northwestern Michigan College and Hagerty, while media sponsors include 9&10 News and WTCM Radio. The 2016 Hagerty Small Business of the Year was Studio 415 Salon in Traverse City.

Individuals can nominate up to 10 businesses for the Small Business Celebration. Companies that are nominated receive a letter informing them of their nomination and are invited to complete an application by March 24. Companies that apply are featured in the SBC Candidates Showcase on April 5.

Following the showcase, a panel of judges reviews the applications and the nominations are trimmed to the Top 10 finalists that are visited and evaluated by the panel. The Top 10 finalists are highlighted at a Meet the Top 10 Breakfast event on May 16.

The Chamber’s 2017 Hagerty Small Business of the Year Award will be presented at the SBC Awards Ceremony on May 31. All SBC events are held at Northwestern Michigan College’s Hagerty Center.
