Traverse City Area Chamber Launches Executive Director Search

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce has formally launched a search for a new Executive Director.

The Executive Director will be responsible for developing and leading the Chamber’s membership-related programs and strategies, implement the Chamber’s “personal as possible” goals for serving its members and the community, and excelling in the Chamber’s team-driven, collaborative work environment.

Applicants must submit a resume and substantive cover letter by Monday, November 7, 2016 at 5 p.m. Interviews will be held December 12 and 13 and the Chamber plans to have its new leader on board by early 2017. A complete job description and application information are available on the home page of the Chamber’s website at

The search is being facilitated by the Chamber’s Executive Committee, which includes TraverseCONNECT CEO Doug Luciani.

“This is really the final piece of the puzzle in completing the Chamber’s re-organization last year under TraverseCONNECT,” Luciani said. “The Chamber Board has worked hard to redefine the Executive Director position to meet the specific needs of the organization and looks forward to finding the right person to take on those responsibilities.”

The Executive Director will report to the Chamber’s 22-member Board of Directors and Luciani as the head of TraverseCONNECT, the parent organization of the Chamber. Officials said the individual will serve as the “face of the Chamber” and must possess strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Chamber Board Chairman Mike Meindertsma commended the Chamber Board for its efforts in conducting a thorough assessment of the Chamber’s leadership needs, developing a new job description for the director position and helping out wherever needed during the leadership transition.

“The Board has undertaken a tremendous level of due diligence to determine what kind of person it wants to lead the Chamber going forward,” Meindertsma said. “Board members have really stepped up to support the organization and its members during this transition period. We’re excited to take the final step in filling this position that is so important both to the organization and the community.”

Cover letters and resumes should be addressed to the Search Committee at 202 E. Grandview Parkway, Traverse City MI, 49684, and sent by email to All correspondence will be considered confidential.
